SPINE CLIMB FUNDRAISER – REGISTER TODAY
October 16 is World Spine Day – and we are inviting you to #RISEUP and take the challenge to join us for the 1ST ANNUAL SPINE CLIMB FUNDRAISER and help make a difference in lives of individuals living with debilitating neck and back pain in underdeveloped countries.
The most recent World Health Organization Global Burden of Disease report was published in Lancet in December 2012. In this report, the following information regarding spinal conditions was reported:
- Low back pain is the leading cause of disability
- Neck pain is the fourth leading cause of disability
- Low back pain and neck pain affect 1 billion people worldwide.
- Spinal pain contributes more to the global burden of disease (including death and disability) than: HIV, diabetes, malaria, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, breast and lung cancer combined, traffic injuries, and lower respiratory infections.
The Spine Climb is in support of World Spine Care – an innovative organization that works to provide high-level musculoskeletal care to people with limited access to health care in developing countries. In many of these countries if people can’t work, even due to medical reasons, they are left destitute and unable to provide for themselves or their families. Let’s help them stay strong, healthy, and able to work. All proceeds of the event will go to World Spine Care.
People of all ages and athletic ability are welcome to register. The event will feature two participation options including a Fun Climb and the Endurance Climb which is a competition for the most set of stairs completed during the event.
The day will be filled with entertainment and prizes from event sponsors and hosts.
Date: Sunday, October 16, 2016
Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: McHugh Bluff Stairs (Calgary, AB) on the outdoor stairs and pathway
